    IP-TV

I ordered a new SKY box for cable connection, it has been delivered but it has a TV connector.  I have Kabel Deutschland internet.  What do I have to do to get the correct SKY box?

Ich bestellte eine neue SKY Box für Kabelanschluss, es wurde geliefert, aber es hat einen TV-Anschluss. Ich habe Kabel Deutschland Internet. Was muss ich tun, um die richtige SKY Box zu bekommen?

          Heyo robhitchen,

for IPTV customers usually use the devices of skys cooperation partners. If my guess is correct you might already have something like that. Could it be a GIGA TV Box of Vodafone Kabel Deutschland? If that's the case it is possible to book your sky contents on this device. The customer service of sky can make it happen. The only thing you need is your vodafone smardcard number (might be a virtual smartcard) and tell them to the sky customer service. The systemchange costs 9,90€ if I'm correct.

Disclaimer: I might not be 100% accurate. But that's the case for Unity Medias Horizon Box and customers who watch sky via Telekom Entertain so I might not be far off. But then again, the customer service might be of better help than me

When changing to Sky at Vodafone, the existing subscription can not be changed. In this case, a new record must always be made. Depending on how long the original contract term was, the contract will be adapted to this and the conditions.

Ein Internet Anschluss reicht nicht aus. Es muss ein Kabelanschluss von Vodafone Kabel Deutschland vorhanden sein.

I just spoke with the helpcentre and the solution is to get a GIGA TV box then get my sky through that.  So thanks to you all for your great support and correct advice.

I think robhitchen meant the antenna connection and with the GIGA TV box he now seems to be able to see Sky.

                                          Hello again all.

Thanks for all your advice and comments.

Just to make sure you all have the details of the problem.... I have moved house, at the previous house I had a SKY satellite connection.  At my new house I don't have a satellite dish, so I thought I'd try to connect to SKY through my Vodafone internet, apparently it is possible........

First I tried connecting the satellite box to the internet - internet Vodafone wall output to SKY box SAT 1 input, no surprises  it didn't work.

So I checked the SKY webpages and saw that there was a cable SKY box, so I ordered it.  When it arrived it had a TV antenna input - no good.  Called the SKY helpcentre, they only make 2 boxes, one for satellite and one for cable ( didn't I say that's what I ordered!!!!!!)  They suggested I get a Vodafone Giga TV box (see 10 Sep post - sorry jackinthebox, I had marked your answer as correct, had to unmark it after this mornings visit to Vodafone).

Just back from holiday, I just made a visit to Vodafone to ask if I can get a Giga TV box so I can continue with my SKY account.  They said I don't need a Giga TV Box, SKY has 2 types of box and I can get a SKY box that connects direct to the Vodafone internet...........!

On 10 Sep SKY had said I need a Giga TV box.  Today Vodafone said I can connect a SKY box direct to their internet...

I'm originally an electronics engineer, but this is black box technology that relies on system interaction beyond my comprehension.  Does anybody know a technology expert that can solve my problem?

in the meantime, back to the telephone helplines............I'll go around the calls again!

If Vodafone IP TV is available on your Address you need from Vodafone the Vodafone TV Center. I say if its  available . This can  Vodafone tell you. On  this Vodafone TV Center you can book Sky.

If you have Cable from Vodafone you can  order from Sky a Receiver for Cable.

Hi robhitchen, I'm sorry that you are not able to enjoy Sky in your new home yet. If you want to receive Sky via Vodafone you can use a Sky Cable Box for it. Just to be sure: You ordered a Sky Cable TV Box? Usually it comes with a Smartcard, in your case it should be the Vodafone Smartcard and after receiving the Cable box and the right Smartcard, it should not be a problem to watch Sky. Could you please get back to me and tell me the details about what you've ordered and what you've received, so that I can help you further. Kind regards, Nadia

                                                      Hello Nadia,

Thank you so much for your email.  I feel confident that with your help it's possible to solve this issue.

I spoke to Frau Brandt Thursday and she was also very helpful.  Consequently, I have ordered a cable SKY+Pro box - internal storage 1TB and an internal WLAN.

You mention a Vodafone Smartcard.  Despite numerous visits to Vodafone and calls to both Vodafone and SKY, this is the first mention of a Vodafone Smartcard, so it's no surprise that I don't have one, is this a problem?

I'm most concerned about the cable box connections.  I had previously ordered a cable box through the sky website.  I returned it as I couldn't make it work with the connections shown in the documents diagram that came with the box.

I still don't understand the concept of the internet connections by Vodafone Kabel Deutschland.  Maybe you can clarify it for me.  A 200MB input into the house is fed via a hub to each room in the house via thin coax, my router is connected to one.  Connections to the sky cable box are through the TV type - thick coax - sockets on the wall, I can't see how Vodafone have connected these to the hub.

Could you explain how the video data will get to the sky cable box, is it supposed to be through these wall sockets or the WLAN?

                                                      Many thanks again,

                                                      Regards,

                                                      Rob.

                                                          and tell them your problem.

They will surely help you to find the right solution.

No one knows your local circumstances in your Apartment.

So it is better someone with specialist knowledge looks at it.

Hello Rob, I'm glad that I could help you. The concept with the connection to Vodafone/Kabel Deutschland is helpful as you get to watch more contents with an internet connection, than without it. Another benefit of an internet connection is, that you can watch the contents of your Sky box immediately without having to wait for them to load onto your hard disk. And lastly you can order Sky Select movies and shop in the Sky Select store easily via your remote once your Sky box it is connected to the internet. Regarding the smartcard. The smartcard is a card about the size of a credit card and it contains all your information, regarding your Sky subscription for example which packages you have subscribed to and which channels you can watch with that subscription of yours, so without the smartcard you will not be able to watch anything you ordered. There are matching smartcards for every internet connection, so there is one for Vodafone/Kabel Deutschland as well. The smartcard is usually sent to the customer seperately, not along with the Sky box. You have contacted Frau Brandt and ordered a new Sky box for your Cable connection, did I get that right or were you talking about the previous Sky Box you got after moving? Kind regards, Nadia

                                                              There are different connections.

If you have Vodafone Cable the Cable Sky Receiver with a Smartcard is ok.

If you have only Vodafone Internet without Cable , the Sky Receiver dont Work. Ist the wrong Receiver.

If you like Sky over the Internet, you need a Vodafone TV Center. This is a Receiver from Vodafone to connect to the Internet. I P TV.  Than you can book Sky on this TV CENTER.

The internal WLAN does not use anything to receive Sky. The wireless is only available for the Sky on Demand content that is streamed.

Your first cable receiver was "THE SELF" cable receiver you have now! If the Sky + did not go, the Sky + Pro does NOT go too close.

This is your problem and Nadja does not understand it, that is your second problem.

The reception data comes into the Sky + Pro through the antenna cable, which comes from the antenna socket of the wall and leads into the receiver in CABLE IN.

Hi Herbst.  Thanks very much for the very helpful information and diagram.  I have to be honest and say that the most confusing issue I had before has been that the cable sky box should be connected to an antenna socket - not what I expected but thanks to your confirmation I'll try it.  However.............

I ordered a cable sky box last weekend, unfortunately I received a satellite box!!!!!!!   I'm returning it, let's see what turns up next week.  Though after reading Burkhards comments, I'm still not convinced I shouldn't cancel everything and go with Vodafone Kabel-D TV!

To be honest, the information and assistance given in this forum has been more helpful than the sky helpcentre unfortunately.  In your response you suggest Sandra might help, is she a moderator?  Can she step in and assist?

Let's see, the story isn't over yet!
